When not drawing event caricatures Big AL likes to draw from life. Exploring the human experience through line, color, form, movement, shape, etc. Through observations in ink, pencil, watercolor and other drawing media he captures something about the subject before him that delights the senses. Artwalk 2009 was fun -This is Big Al's "Peace, Love, Recycle" 2009 Artwalk banner. It was auctioned off with others as a fundraiser for the Bothwell Arts Center in Livermore.
Thanks to Bill Sala and friends for having me once again in Castro Valley Fall 2009. A great group of artists were featured - Doug Desmond, Jason Griego, Ruth Hussey, Big AL Lopez, Mark Mertens, Ron Norman, Bill Sala, Barbara Stanton and Bill Weber.
Big Al draws Pin-ups ... and Tiki's too! The female form has always been a fascinating subject for Artist's to capture throughout the ages. In 2001 with his finding of ShaneGlines and his "Cartoon and Illustration Paradise", AKA the start of The Drawing Board, Al found he enjoyed simplifying and rendering caricature style Pin-Ups. Big Al's interest in drawing the female form led him to become an associate member with the many talented artists at Bellefree The picture below is of Java's Bachelor Pad's 1st Cheesecake Queen, Carol and Big AL at Bluespace in Hollywood Summer of 2004.
